If Landon wants to go back to Europe then he really should look to a smaller club, just like Bayer Leverkusen or a comparable club where he will get an opportunity to play. He will be given a chance to establish himself within a team, league, and in Europe, and once he has established himself then he can move onto a bigger club such as Bayern, if he really has the talent to be a starter at a top European club.
For those who think that I am wrong, take the example of Roque Santa Cruz, the Paraguayan international forward. He couldn't establish himself at Bayern, moved to Blackburn where he had a great year last season, and now is considered to be a top forward in Europe with much bigger clubs rumored to want to buy him. This is the exact path that Landon needs to follow.
Of course, selfishly speaking I would much prefer that he stay in MLS and work with the league to establish himself as the face of the league, which he pretty much was prior to the arrival of Beckham. How a team in MLS with Beckham and Donovan can't make the playoffs is still beyond me, but by staying in MLS, Landon has a whole world open to him in the American sports market as the star American player in MLS. He has plenty of opportunity to make a name and career for himself playing in one of the largest markets in the world, which in all likelihood he won't have if he goes to Europe. Interesting options for Mr. Donovan to consider...
