Oguchi Onyewu article in Sports Illustrated

Here is a link to a great article by Greg Lalas from Sports Illustrated about Oguchi Onyewu's success with Standard Liege in the Belgian League, and also the rumors that have surfaced about a move to a bigger club. I have always been very impressed with "Gooch" and felt that he would turn into a top class defender. His move to Newcastle United is discussed in the article and my feeling was that he never really was given a proper run in the team. He was brought over in the middle of the season, much like Eddie Johnson was last year to Fulham, and the expectations weren't realistic. Both players really needed to be bought in the close season and given a run in the team from the start of the season in order to be successful. Hopefully, if "Gooch" does move onto to a bigger club he will wait till next summer so that he has the opportunity to properly settle into his new team. In the meantime he is a key player for the U.S. National Team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
