Apparently, Robinho wasn't the only big name player that Manchester City tried to recruit on the deadline day of the transfer window as ESPN reports in this article that they placed a big for Mario Gomez as well. I wonder if they also tried to recruit Pele and Franz Beckenbauer out of retirement....
Anyway, it seems that "Super Mario" wants to move on to a bigger club after the success that he has had in recent years with all of the goals that he has scored in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich were also known to have been interested in buying him as well. If he had played well in the Euro 2008 tournament he probably would have already earned the big money move that he seeks. He was given numerous chances by German coach Joachim Low to show what he can do, but he wasn't able to play nearly as well as he is capable of. I still think that "Super Mario" has a little ways to go before he is ready to be counted on in the big time and if I were a big club looking for a forward I would be a little hesitant about spending a lot of money on him until he shows what he can do on a bigger stage.
