Getting beyond Jack Warner, its things like players diving to get a call, penalty kicks, all of the money in the game that causes players and managers to play not to lose instead of playing to win, all of these types of things that cause people to be turned off from soccer. That is the reason why it hasn't gotten popular in America. So many Americans who are skeptical to begin with look at soccer as a joke because of the different elements of corruption within the game. I'm not saying that they are right, there is plenty of corruption in American sports as well, we all know that. What I am saying is that the people who are the casual sports fans, the audience that MLS and the NASL before it is trying to capture is turned off by the corrupted elements in the game and that is why soccer hasn't grown on a professional level in the U.S. and won't until these elements can be eradicated from the game.
