Berbatov to Manchester United - analysis

There is a reason why Manchester United have been the dominant team in England throughout the 1990's and 2000's, its because they have Alex Ferguson as their manager. Great players have come and gone, but the one constant has been Ferguson and that's because he always puts together a great squad full of top class players. The signing of Dimitar Berbatov was another terrific move, one that could even be the key to Man U's success this season. Berbatov is exactly the type of forward that Man U have needed since they sold Ruud Van Nistelrooy, a pure out and out goal scorer. Combining him with Rooney, Tevez, and Cristiano Ronaldo almost isn't fair to the rest of the Premier League, such is the talent that all of them possess. Ferguson nearly lost Berbatov, but in the end he came away with the player he wanted.

On the flip side, you also have to give Juande Ramos a lot of credit. He stuck to his guns and refused to sell Berbatov unless he got the price he wanted, which he did. Ramos has added a lot of quality players to the Tottenham squad, and I expect to see this team jell into a real force within the Premier League as the season goes on. Picking up Vedran Corluka was an interesting move considering that Spurs had just bought Alan Hutton from Glasgow Rangers at the beginning of the year. However, you have to look at Spurs as a work in progress, and a team on the rise.
