You guide a team to their best start in the English Premiership for 9 years (granted it is early in the season) and what do you do... well why not quit the club. When you examine the details though as explained in this article by ESPN, you can understand why Alan Curbishley resigned from West Ham United. He wasn't given any control to do what he wanted to do with the squad. He took the team and along with a big helping hand from Carlos Tevez, saved it from relegation in the 06-07 season. He then had a successful season last year and got off to a great start this year. Lets face it, the administrators can say what they want about West Ham, but they are not a top team within the Premiership and unless they appoint someone soon who can steady the ship, they could very easily fall back into the relegation battle this season.
Curbishley's managerial record has been stellar given the resources he has been given to work with over the years. Why a top English club won't give him a shot is simply beyond me. As soon as he left Charlton Athletic they went straight down to the English League One or really the second division. If I were the English Football Association I would have offered him the job of England manager a long time ago. He is a much better candidate then Steve McLaren ever was. We'll see what his next move will be, but wherever he goes he will bring them success, there is not question in my mind about that.
