According to the latest news in the London Times, Chelsea are planning to make a world record signing of Kaka from A.C. Milan. To me thats Kaka. With the amount of money they are going to spend on 1 player who may still be in his prime, but also is nearing the end of it, they could be rebuilding the entire squad for the multiple campaigns that they have to mount in England and Europe.
Chelsea built up their squad a few years ago when Jose Mourinho came to the team by signing top young players that were emerging into star players, not by signing the galaticos of Real Madrid or the top players in the world at the time who had already played their best football and were looking for one last big payday. This move just seems like another move similar to when Chelsea signed Andrei Shevchenko was clearly is no longer the player that he was and they paid a fortune for him.
There are many areas within Chelsea's squad that are going to need to be upgraded, a forward to replace Drogba, a better right sided midfielder then Shawn Wright-Philips, a defender to replace Carvalho, a midfielder to provide cover for Michael Essien. That is where Abramovich's money should be going to plus to be frank I just don't think that Kaka (as good as he is) is worth being paid as the top player in the world. The only player that I think is worthy of breaking the bank for is Lionel Messi because of the combination of talent and that he is still so young. I really think that he will emerge as the world's best player for an extended period of time. Time will tell how Chelsea proceed, but to me they are not going in the direction that leads to titles.
